In the spirit of sending & receiving good things via the USPS and enjoying time away from my computer, I’m so excited to announce the 2.0 version of FranMail – IN PRINT!
TLDR:
There are 2 ways to receive a copy in the mail —
you can subscribe directly on my website here, or purchase just the first issue
OR to keep it easy breezy: reply to this email! with your venmo username & mailing address. I’ll send you a quick invoice and throw it in the mail. I want to get this thing in your hands!
For those of us raised on American Girl Magazine, the Sunday funnies, & Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyer, there’s nothing like the printed word! I loved writing FranMail as a newsletter and keeping in touch with all of you, and I’ve been working my way back to the rhythm of creating a cohesive THING. At a certain point, my Pagemaker roots called me back to design something more involved than an email, and I had to listen. This new format (riso-printed! modular! perforated!) offers the blend of structure and possibility I love most, and hopefully brings a bright spot to your mail pile!
Starting today, you can purchase the fall issue on my website, and it’ll be in the mail tomorrow! To kick us off, there are a couple of recipes, a postcard to share, and every bit of knowledge I’ve acquired about painting wallpaper at home, only in print!
If you’d like to subscribe to future issues, that option is available and offers a slight discount. Issues will arrive quarterly and cost about what you’re spending at Starbucks on a PSL. You can expect the winter issue to arrive in February when the weather is at its bleakest. Something to look forward to!
I’m not sure which wave of media we’re riding anymore, and creating/writing/drawing this whole deal tapped into an essential self – someone in love with magazines and keeping in touch with friends, and taking an idea as far as possible. There’s plenty competing for your attention these days, and I don’t take your readership for granted. Thank you for following along!

FAQs:
Why are you charging $6 for something that used to be free?
Thank you for asking! I struggled with pricing, but in an effort to create some mutual buy-in and let this project cover its own production costs, I’m asking the less than a pint of ice cream (depending on your source).
Is postage included in the price?
Yes, domestically. I’ll need to figure it out if you’re abroad. I believe in us!
I want to gift a subscription to my sister-in-law for Christmas. How do I do that?
Wow that is such a thoughtful gesture! Subscriptions are available for $20, include 4 issues, and assume mail-forwarding will occur should someone move. You can purchase on my website, please include a note with her address and I will take care of the rest!
My budget is tight, but I am a Long Time Fan and I hate the idea of missing out. Is there an option for me?
You are the wind beneath my wings, reply to this email with your request! This is a limited edition of 200, but I will do my best to accommodate!
also!
I’d be remiss not to mention the launch of my 2024 desk calendar. It’s pint-sized! Features new floral artwork! Would be a killer secret Santa gift!
xoxox, Frances
Ordered so fast! My childhood dream job was fancy magazine editor, so print revivals always feel like home to me, too. (And I LOVE the subversiveness of using Substack to promote print projects!)
